Dear Friends of August Cellars,
Upcoming in April at August Cellars
In the immortal words of Simon and
Garfunkel, "the times they are a-changin’”. We hope you are all well and
staying safe in these challenging times that change on a daily basis. Especially
our first responders and medical personnel; bless you all.
At the winery, we are still open
Friday – Sunday, 11-5 for curb side pickup, or bottle sales at the counter. We
are wiping down all surfaces and have a sanitation station by the front door.
We are encouraging you to shop for our wine on our website, augustcellars.com.
You can have it shipped to you, or check the box for pick up at winery, then
call ahead and when you show up, we will bring it out to you. All our club
members can sign in to their account (you may have to change your password) to
get the same discounts you get in the tasting room.
On a happier note, we are keeping
everyone on our payroll as normal, so someone will actually be here to take
and/or process your orders and get them ready!
News from the Month of March
Well, March was a challenging month
to say the least. While we did have our wine club pickup party, despite the snowstorm,
we are in O.K. shape. Sadly, the McMinnville festival was cancelled, this was
quite a blow to St. James Parrish as this is their one big fundraiser of the
year. Let’s hope next year will be bigger and better that any others.
For those who did show up for the
party, thank you, but we understand if you couldn’t make it. For those that
didn’t, I ran credit your cards, so check your statements and if you see a
charge, your wine is boxed up and ready to go. If not, the card we have on file
is no longer valid, so please login to the website, or call us to update your
info, and we can run your card so you can have some wine to enjoy while staying
cooped up at home. As a courtesy, I’m publishing the recipes for the food
pairings!
Paired with the 2017 Black Label
Pinot Gris;
Veggie Pesto-Ricotta Pizza- Pizza dough (can get it at grocery stores like Winco, etc.) follow
instructions for temp and cook time (I believe it was 450 degrees for like 20
minutes). Roll out pizza dough (using corn meal to keep from sticking) and
cover top with extra virgin olive oil. Then spread top with whole milk ricotta,
then cover that with pesto sauce. Cook. Remove and add chopped red onions and
sun-dried tomatoes. May add chili flakes for extra spice. Non-veggie folks might
want to add some spicy sliced salami. Remember, you’re making a pizza, not a
piano. Embellish if you want!
Paired with the 2009 Maréchal Foch;
Greek style lamb meatballs w/Feta
cheese –
1 ½ lbs. ground lamb
½ cup white onion, finely chopped
¼ cup Panko bread crumbs
1 egg
1 tbsp granulated garlic
4 oz crumbled feta cheese
¼ cup dried chives
Salt and pepper to taste
Mix
all the above by hand in a bowl and form into golf ball size meatballs. Roast
on broiling pan at 400 for 25-30 min.

Upcoming Events at the Winery:
As of this time, we are pretty
sure that the Maréchal Foch vertical on May 16th-17th as
well as our Memorial Day Weekend Open House, May 23rd-24th,
have been put on hold until we hear different. The Red Lover’s flight of our
tenant wines is scheduled to be available starting May 29th. That
also is on hold until we hear that we can start doing samples again. Tenant
wines by the bottle will continue to be available for sale by the bottle, but
we don’t carry the entire line-up of each winery, so call ahead and see if we
have what you’re looking for. We are hopeful that we can have the June club
pickup party. Please stay tuned to your e-mail or our web page and
Facebook pages for updates.
Wine
Club Members and your Credit Card we have on file: If your card has expired, or changed due to fraud, we
understand. When possible, please login to our website, (you might have to
change your password ), and update your info with us so you may keep receiving
our wines in a timely manner. Please contact either Tom or myself, and we’ll
get it done, or you can update it if you stop in to get your shipment.
Thank-you.
Alaska & Horizon Airlines are
continuing their "Oregon Wines Fly Free” program. If you are part of their
mileage program, show us you’re boarding pass (smartphones work too) and we’ll
waive your tasting fee. Then when you buy wine, we’ll box it for free and
Alaska/Horizon will ship your first box for free!
Our current hours are, Fri-Sun, 11-5.
Thank-you very much for supporting
us during this time, and again we wish everyone the best of health. Remember,
if you have a glass (or bottle) of wine in each hand, you’re less likely to
touch your face! Cheers.
